LM Wind Power has won an extension of a framework agreement to supply blades to German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon, offering encouragement for those who want to see LM’s parent company GE Vernova enter a new upcycle.

Under the contract, Denmark-based LM Wind power will produce its LM78.3 onshore wind blades for Enercon’s E-160 EP5 turbine, which is widely used on wind energy projects across European countries, especially Germany, as well as in Latin America, and Southeast Asia.

Under the multi-year agreement, production will take place at LM Wind Power’s Dabaspet facility in India.

“This contract extension reflects the strength of our long-term collaboration with Enercon,” said Hanif Mashal, CEO of LM Wind Power. “We are honored to continue supporting the OEM’s efforts to expand renewable energy solutions worldwide while reinforcing our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability in the wind energy industry.”

Despite forming part of a rival OEM since GE’s 2016 acquisition, LM Wind Power has been supplying Enercon under a framework agreement since 2018.

US wind turbine manufacturing GE Vernova has been rationalising its whole business over the last two years.

Last November CEO Scott Strazik stated that the company is in no rush to win new orders in the offshore wind sector, declaring it is “not a market opportunity that we see in front of us right now”.
LM Wind Power has also been downsizing with the closure last year of a manufacturing facility in Brazil, where the onshore wind sector has faced headwinds.
