Mingyang names Europe CEO as Chinese wind player plans push
Former energy chief at chemicals giant BASF to lead Chinese group's ambitions in region
Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Mingyang has named the former head of energy for BASF as its new chief in Europe as it prepares for a push in the continent.
Horatio Evers becomes CEO for Ming Yang Europe after leading the energy operation at the German chemical giant since 2019.
Evers joins Mingyang – among the most ambitious Chinese wind OEMs in terms of international growth – as it ramps up its European plans.
The turbine maker is in the running to supply turbines in both the UK and the Italian offshore markets and has been tipped with potential factories in both.
It has also announced plans to link with UK power group Octopus over turbine software and onshore wind.
Like other Chinese groups seeking to enter European markets, Mingyang has faced opposition over alleged security concerns and its potential impact on European supply chains and manufacturers.
Evers said: “Together, we will strengthen Ming Yang’s presence in global markets and accelerate the European Net-Zero Plan and the transition to a zero-carbon future.”
Mingyang founder and CEO Zhang Chuanwei said Evers’ “outstanding track record in driving renewable energy growth worldwide, combined with his international management experience and deep understanding of both European and Chinese markets, will be instrumental in taking Ming Yang Europe to the next level”.
