Transmission giant Hitachi Energy agrees deal with transitioning oil & gas contractor for grid infrastructure deliveries in international wind-at-sea markets
Transmission and distribution technology giant Hitachi Energy has agreed a collaboration deal with transitioning oil & gas contractor Petrofac to provide integrated grid infrastructure for international offshore wind markets.
Few details of the tie-up, seen as building on the “complementary core technologies and expertise” of the two companies, were given, beyond that tit would cover both high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) solutions.
“This collaboration will create added value for our customers and help accelerate the energy transition,” said Niklas Persson, managing director of Hitachi Energy’s grid integration business. “HVDC and HVAC solutions are key enablers of the transition to a global energy system that is more sustainable, flexible and secure.”
Petrofac engineering & construction division COO Elie Lahoud said: “Offshore wind plays a crucial role in the transition to clean, affordable energy.”
Hitachi Energy HVDC system have been installed in numerous offshore wind projects, including for the UK’s Dogger Bank, currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm under construction, and four of the DolWin and BorWin HVDC hubs off Germany that connect a network of power plants in the North Sea to the European grid.
