'Dynamic PPA market in Europe': TotalEnergies to sell Belgian offshore wind power to Air Liquide
French oil & gas company to supply 50GWh to industrial gases firm amid ambition to become a renewable energy major
French oil major TotalEnergies through its Lampiris unit will supply 50 gigawatt hours of electricity per year from a Belgian offshore wind farm to industrial gases company Air Liquide as part of a corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The 15-year deal follows up on similar PPAs signed this year with Orange, Microsoft and Merck.
Air Liquide will use the renewable electricity to power some of its industrial and medical gas production sites in Belgium.
“A growing number of companies are shifting to renewable energy, and we want to support them on their path towards carbon neutrality,” said Julien Pouget, senior vice president Renewables at TotalEnergies.
“There is a dynamic market for corporate PPAs in Europe, and we want TotalEnergies to take a strong leadership position.”
The company recently had changed its name from Total to TotalEnergies to reflect its goal to transform itself from an oil & gas pure-play into a wider energy company, and reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
As part of its green ambition, TotalEnergies targets to boost its renewable energy capacity from 7GW at the end of last year to 35GW in gross generation capacity from renewables by 2025, and 100GW by 2030 – with the objective to become one of the world’s top five renewable energy companies.
TotalEnergies didn’t tell from which offshore wind farm the electricity would come for the Air Liquide deal.
