The UK renewables unit of French nuclear giant EDF has teamed up with Irish developer ESB and the Reventus power business of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) to bid with a gigascale floating wind project in the Celtic Sea in the next UK offshore wind leasing round.

The new partnership sees each of the companies taking a 33.3% ownership stake in the development of the 1GW Gwynt Glas floating project, while Ireland’s DP Energy will remain a development partner in the project.

“We are delighted to welcome ESB and Reventus Power onboard as our new joint venture partners to Gwynt Glas,” EDF Renewables UK CEO Matthieu Hue said.

“We already work with ESB on other projects, including Neart na Gaoithe, our offshore wind farm, currently under construction in the Firth of Forth and the Stornoway onshore wind farm in the Western Isles.

EDF has also already worked with Reventus Power, on the Provence Grand Large floating wind farm in France.

Michael van der Heijden, CEO of Reventus Power, added: “We are delighted to join with EDF Renewables and ESB, two industry leading players, in the Gwynt Glas consortium.

“Together with our partners, we bring a deep understanding of the floating offshore wind market and we look forward to participating in the forthcoming UK Round 5 Leasing Round”
