Gigascale forest onshore wind plan as Swedish paper giant links with OX2
Nordic developer and forestry giant to advance 1GW in power price zone including Stockholm and major industries
Nordic developer OX2 and Stora Enso have teamed up to jointly develop about 1GW of onshore wind capacity on lands of the forestry and paper giant in central Sweden.
Projects are planned to be completed before 2030 and will mostly be located in Sweden’s SE3 electricity price area, which includes the country's biggest cities Stockholm and Gothenburg, as well as major industry centres.
“Stora Enso has both the opportunity and the ambition to contribute to the green energy transition with the land holdings we have,” Stora Enso’s head of wind power, Emil Thalin, said.
The cooperation agreement also includes the option of developing solar power and battery energy storage projects.
OX2 will have the main responsibility during the development and construction phase.
“Stora Enso's land holdings have good potential for wind power and together we will work to meet the needs of society and industry for additional electricity production in the near term,” said Anders Nilsson, onshore wind development head at OX2 Sweden.
As the projects are still at an early development stage, only a small percentage of them will be included in OX2’s reported development portfolio.
