Nordex nets another 253MW turbine order as German onshore wind developer picks up the pace
UKA has responded positively to German renewables push and OEM expects “further substantial orders" in 2024
Nordex will supply an additional 253MW of wind turbine capacity to German renewables developer UKA under a framework agreement that covers the supply of up to 1GW in generation capacity.
The latest order is for a range of machines from the N149/5.X, N163/5.X and N163/6.X series, to be installed in the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg, Nordex stated today (Wednesday).
Nordex, led by CEO Jose Luis Blanco, will take over premium service of the turbines for 20 years, following installation in 2025.
With the latest orders, UKA has ordered a total 450MW of Nordex turbine capacity for German wind projects within the last three months.
The company was successful in Germany’s federal "Wind on Land" tender round in February, netting almost 18%, or 321MW, of the awarded projects.
"After our success in the February tender for onshore wind, this is further proof that project implementation is increasingly coming back into focus at UKA," commented managing partner Gernot Gauglitz.
"The energy transition has noticeably gained momentum in Germany. UKA will continue to play a central role in Germany's climate-friendly, affordable and independent electricity supply in the future. Nordex is a strong partner for us in this regard."
On the procurement side, UKA extended an existing framework agreement with Nordex in November 2023 and the company stated today that “further substantial orders" are planned for 2024.
Karsten Brüggemann, vice-president (central region) with Nordex commented: " On the basis of the framework agreement, a trusting and constructive partnership has developed, which we value very much and want to expand further. With the new projects, we can once again make a good deal of progress in the energy transition in Germany together with UKA."
UKA develops and sells wind and solar parks in Germany, elsewhere in Europe and in North America. Its project pipeline in all its markets currently exceeds 19GW.
The Nordex group has manufacturing facilities in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India and Mexico as well as a mothballed factory in the USA. Its product portfolio is mainly focused on onshore turbines in the 4MW to 6MW range.
