OEM Nordex will supply turbines for the largest wind farm in the Baltic states, German development bank KfW IPEX revealed.

The bank said it will provide €326m ($353m) in financing to Lithuanian developer UAB Renerga, which is slated to build the 264MW Pagegiai wind farm in the Lithuanian region with the same name. Part of the financing can count on German ‘Euler Hermes’ export credit guarantees. he Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) will provide another €100m in finance.

Nordex will provide 40 wind turbines with a rating of 6.6MW each, KfW said, without specifying the turbine model.

"We are very proud to be working with UAB Renerga for the first time, especially on this 264 MW large-scale Pagegiai project," Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said.

"We see the supply contract as the starting point of a powerful cooperation between both groups.”

The wind farm will sell its power through a long-term power purchase agreement to Achemos, the largest chemicals group in the Baltics.

Achema, also the Baltics' leading fertiliser producer, will use this renewable energy to produce green ammonia (via the production of green hydrogen from renewable power through electrolysis), significantly cutting emissions.

“Our aim is to accompany the transformation of the economy and society worldwide,” said Velibor Marjanovic, member of the management board of KfW IPEX.

“With our participation, we support our customer, the Achemos Group, in converting its energy supply and underline our commitment to further advance the energy transition in Europe.”

Nordex on Wednesday also said it has also received an order from the energy unit of the Holmen forestry group for a 98MW project in Sweden.

The company in the summer of next year will supply and install 14 of its N163/6.X turbines at the wind project in Blisterliden in a forested area of the northern Swedish province of Västerbotten.

The turbines will be installed on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 169 metres, and feature an anti-icing system to reduce ice formation on the rotor blades.

“The turbines' anti-icing system and the cold-climate variant will ensure reliable electricity production despite the challenges posed by the harsh environmental conditions in the Swedish climate,” Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said.
