Record volume of bids in Germany's latest multi-gigawatt onshore wind tender

Nearly 2.4GW of bids were successful at average price for winning bids of €73.33/MWh, federal grids agency (BNetzA) says

Germany’s latest onshore wind tender was still somewhat under-subscribed but bids handed in nevertheless reached a record volume of nearly 2.5GW, Germany’s federal grids agency (BNetzA) said.

Prices for winning bids again remained close to the ceiling.

“The current tendering round represents a record with almost 2.5GW of submitted bids and confirms the trend of increasing bid and approval numbers," BNetzA president Klaus Müller said.

"If this positive development continues, the expansion targets for onshore wind can be achieved.

Previous German onshore wind tenders were at times heavily under-subscribed amid a bottleneck of permits.

Interested parties for the latest tender had handed in 2.485GW in bids, while 2.795GW were on offer. With that, the auction was still undersubscribed, but less so than earlier tenders.

In total, 2.379GW of bids were successful, with winning bids averaging a price of €73.33/MWh, just below the price ceiling of €73.35/MWh.

The BNetzA also announced the results of an innovation tender that was only open for hybrid wind-solar projects.

In that auction, 512MW of projects won out of 564MW on offer, at an average price of €83.30/MWh, well below the price ceiling of €91.80/MWh.
