Swedish power giant Vattenfall has named Catrin Jung as the new chief of its wind division.

Jung will lead the utility’s onshore and offshore wind operations, as well as large-scale solar and battery projects.

Jung is currently offshore wind chief at Vattenfall and will assume her new role on 1 July.

She will replace Helene Biström, who announced in March her intention to step down from the role and leave executive life behind her.

Jung brings “strong leadership, deep industry knowledge and a clear, forward-looking vision – grounded in a solid understanding of today’s realities,” said Vattenfall CEO Anna Borg. “I’m confident she will play a key role in driving our strategic ambitions forward.”

Jung joined Vattenfall in 2002 after obtaining her engineering degree from Leipzig University of Applied Sciences.

“I’m honoured to step into this role,” said Jung. “In these uncertain times, staying focused on our goal of achieving fossil freedom is more important than ever.”

“By working closely with our customers, suppliers, and stakeholders, we can address emerging challenges and create meaningful solutions that shape a sustainable and competitive future energy system.”

Vattenfall recently saw its wind power profits fall as lower winds drove a 15% drop in generation from its turbines despite more assets entering operation.
It has also this year taken a final investment decision on the 980MW Nordlicht 1 and the 630MW Nordlicht 2 offshore wind projects in Germany.
