Vestas scores again with 4.2MW model for huge turbine order in Brazil
The Danish OEM will supply 409MW worth of its V150-4.2 machine to two phases of the Ventos do Piauí project in the Northeast
Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has won an order to supply 409MW worth of its V150-4.2MW turbines for two phases of a huge project in Brazil’s windy Northeast.
The OEM will supply and commission the machines for the Ventos do Piauí II and Ventos do Piauí III sub-projects at Serra do Inácio in Piauí state for a joint venture between Brazil’s Votorantim Energia and the Canadian fund CPP Investments.
The contract includes a 20-year service agreement. Turbine delivery will start in the second half of 2021 with commissioning scheduled for 2022.
Brazil’s Northeast is characterized by constant and strong winds, making it one of the world’s best onshore wind energy regions, with capacity factors that can exceed 50% - close to those of offshore wind.
Vestas in the South American country so far has secured close to 3.5GW of orders for its V150-4.2 machines, which it says are an excellent fit for local wind conditions. Globally, Vestas recently had surpassed 10GW in firm order for the turbine model.
